Aurora dentist also was civic leader Posted on July 20th
Dr. Howard Gillette of Aurora, a community leader and well-known oral surgeon in the Fox River Valley, died of natural causes Wednesday, July 9, in Provena McAuley Manor in Aurora. He was 92.
An Aurora resident for more than 60 years, Dr. Gillette also was a co-founder of the Aurora Dental Arts Building, which opened in the late 1960s with eight other dentists.
“Growing up in Aurora, I rarely encountered anyone who hadn’t had some type of dental work done by him,” said his son, Richard.
Born in Lincoln, Neb., Dr. Gillette was the youngest of three children, whose father worked as a railroad engineer. He moved to Aurora at 14 and graduated from East Aurora High School in 1933. He received a bachelor’s degree from North Central College in Naperville in 1937.
